Orlando, FL — A late-night shooting outside a popular Orlando bar has resulted in the death of an innocent bystander and the arrest of two individuals involved in a chaotic altercation that turned deadly.
At approximately 2:19 a.m. on April 6, 2025, officers from the Orlando Police Department responded to a shooting in the parking lot of the Magic Mall, located at 2155 West Colonial Drive. Upon arrival, officers found 46-year-old Joseph U. Phillips suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders from the Orlando Fire Department arrived on scene and pronounced Phillips deceased.
Detectives launched a comprehensive investigation and quickly determined that Phillips had been a patron at D’Junction Island Bar and Restaurant, located nearby. He had just stepped outside when a dispute broke out among a group of individuals in the parking lot.
During the altercation, Keishawn A. Richards, 42, produced a firearm and attempted to shoot another individual involved in the argument. Instead, Phillips was struck by a stray bullet. Richards was arrested later that day at his residence without incident by the Orlando Police Department SWAT team. He is charged with Manslaughter with a Weapon.
Further investigation led to the identification of a second suspect, Naratha N. McKinney, 29, who was also part of the group involved in the confrontation. According to police, McKinney brandished a firearm and fired several rounds into the air during the dispute. Today, he was taken into custody and charged with Manslaughter and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.
The Orlando Police Department has released mugshots and perp walk footage of both Richards and McKinney as part of the ongoing investigation.
