
ORLANDO, Fla. — A late-night fight in downtown Orlando ended with a woman being shot in the foot after a firearm accidentally discharged during a confrontation, according to Orlando Police.
Officers responded to the area of Church Street and Orange Avenue at approximately 2:30 a.m. on June 28 after reports of gunfire.
Investigators said two groups of people became involved in an altercation that escalated into a physical fight. During the incident, a woman involved in the dispute was punched in the face by someone from the opposing group.
Police said the woman’s brother, who was also at the scene, stepped in to defend her. He allegedly used a firearm to strike the other individual involved in the confrontation. During that encounter, the gun accidentally discharged, striking his sister in the foot.
The woman suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Responding officers quickly located and detained everyone involved in the incident. Following the preliminary investigation, those individuals were released while the investigation continues.
Police said any charges will be determined after the final investigative findings are complete.
The case remains active and ongoing. Orlando Police said no additional information is being released at this time in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.
