With the kickoff of the 28th annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on August 1st, the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts brings back a fine tradition of competitive educational performance at the Alexis and Jim Pugh Theatre. Performance times will vary but evening competitions are scheduled for 7::30 pm with matinees scheduled at 2 pm through August 9. Check with the box office for specific dates wherein matinee competitions will be held.
On Friday August 15, the extremely popular Sister Act, based on the popular film starring the inimitable Whoopi Goldberg, will breeze into DPAC with its inherent comedic take on both religion and break out behaviors. This hilarious play with run through Sunday August 17 at 2pm.
Friday, August 22 welcomes Jeezy into the Walt Disney Theatre for a one night performance at 8 pm. Look for The Music Man with its classic musical elements to enter the Alexis and Jim Pugh Theatre on August 22 and August 23, with both performances at 8pm.
RuPaul’s Drag Race (an 18+ event) swings into the Walt Disney Theater on Wednesday, September 10 at 8 pm for one night only.
On Saturday, September 27 DPAC welcomes Stardew Valley – Symphony of Seasons into the Walt Disney Theater for an 8 pm performance.
Beginning on September 30 with a 7:30 performance, this amazingly popular movie/Broadway play The WIZ will be in performance for a welcome extended stay at the Walt Disney Theatre at DPAC. This delightful Broadway and silver screen accomplishment will run through October 5 with several varying performance times. Please check with the box office for both matinee and evening performance times scheduled.
On October 10, the incredibly talented Emmy award winner Jon Batiste will be in performance at the DPAC. This highly anticipated musician and band leader will be in performance at 8pm with tickets sales anticipated to move quickly.
Air Supply, the inimitable guitar heavy band, will be in performance at 8 pm on Saturday, October 11.
And, if you’re a fan of the timeless Rocky Horror Picture Show, look for the Anniversary Spectacular which is scheduled for Sunday, October 12 at 7:30 pm. Join the original “Brad Majors” (Barry Bostwick), “Columbia” (Nell Campbell) and “Magenta” (Patricia Quinn) for a
special 50th anniversary celebration of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
