A six-person jury found Nelson Odige guilty in a chilling series of attacks on four women waiting at bus stops in the Pine Hills area after only 90 minutes of deliberation.
The charges, stemming from a disturbing case involving the rape of four women happened between January and February 2023.
All four victims bravely testified during the trial, recounting harrowing early morning encounters where they were threatened with violence if they did not comply with Odige’s demands. The attacks shook the Pine Hills community, sparking fear and heightened vigilance among women commuting to work during those months.
The case, which garnered widespread local attention, saw prosecutors brand Odige as the “Pine Hills Bus Stop Rapist.” They argued that he deliberately targeted vulnerable women during their morning routines, weaponizing fear and isolation.
In a statement following the verdict, the Office of the State Attorney emphasized its commitment to pursuing justice for victims of violent sexual offenses stating, “We are relentless in the pursuit of justice for those in our community who fall prey to violent sexual offenders.”
The community now awaits the sentencing phase, on May 21, when Odige will face the consequences of his crimes. His conviction marks a significant moment of justice especially for the Pine Hills community.
