Travaris McCurdy for House District 40 Special Election: “This Is Personal”

ORLANDO, FL — Former State Representative Travaris McCurdy is running in the June 24 special election to represent Florida House District 40. McCurdy is vowing to deliver results for a district he says is part of who he is.

“I was raised right here in House District 40,” said McCurdy. “This community is in my DNA. I went to school here, walked these streets with my grandparents, and now I’m raising my own family here.”

McCurdy previously served in the Florida House from 2020 to 2022, where he secured $950,000 for the Florida Children’s Initiative, expanded early childhood education, and co-sponsored bills that protected firefighters’ rights and helped working professionals. He brings legislative experience and a community-first approach, shaped by his roles as a Chief Legislative Aide, Deputy Political Director, and founder of the Mobile Library.

“My campaign is about housing that’s affordable, schools that work for every child, and a justice system that’s both fair and safe,” he said. “Families shouldn’t have to choose between paying for food and paying their insurance premiums.”

McCurdy remains active in the district through his work with OCPS ACE School, the NAACP, and local small business advocacy.

“I’m not just invested—I’m entrenched,” he added. “I’m running to get things done. I’m qualified, committed, and ready to serve.”

The special election for House District 40 will take place on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
