Eight Children Killed in Shreveport Mass Shooting; Suspect Shot After Police Chase

Police say the suspect fled the scene after the shooting, carjacked a vehicle, and was later killed by officers following a pursuit into a neighboring parish.

SHREVEPORT, La. — Eight children were killed and two others were injured in a mass shooting early Sunday morning in Shreveport, Louisiana, according to police. Authorities say the suspect fled the scene, carjacked a vehicle nearby, and was later shot and killed by officers following a chase.

Officers with the Shreveport Police Department responded just after 6 a.m. to reports of a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of West 79th Street. When they arrived, officers discovered multiple victims and an active crime scene spanning several homes in the neighborhood.

Police reported that 10 people were shot, eight of them fatally. The victims ranged in age from 1 to 14 years old, making the incident one of the deadliest shootings involving children in the region in recent years.

Authorities said the violence extended to multiple locations, including a nearby residence on Harrison Street. Investigators believe at least one victim attempted to flee to another home after being shot.

According to police, the suspected gunman left the scene and forcibly took a vehicle near the intersection of West 79th Street and Lynnwood Avenue. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit that continued into neighboring Bossier Parish, where police shot and killed the suspect.

Officials said investigators believe the suspect acted alone. The motive remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact local law enforcement.
