DELAND, Fla. — The suspect wanted in connection with a Deltona shooting has turned himself in, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Thomas A. Calderon, 37, was wanted for attempted second-degree murder with a firearm following a shooting early Monday morning at a home located onFlagami Terrace in Deltona.
Deputies were first alerted around 3:00 am., when a 29-year-old man arrived at an Orange City hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Investigators say the victim’s girlfriend drove him to the hospital following the shooting.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the incident began with a verbal argument between Calderon and the victim over how the victim was treating his girlfriend. During the confrontation, Calderon allegedly shot the victim in the abdominal area.
Deputies responded to Calderon’s residence on Flagami Terrace shortly after the incident and executed a search warrant, but Calderon had already fled the scene. Authorities noted that he had connections to the Sanford and Seminole County area and warned the public he should be considered armed and dangerous.
The victim was transported to a Sanford hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
Later in the day, officials confirmed Calderon turned himself in. The investigation remains active.
