Pine Hills Community Council holds important meeting

On Tuesday night, the Pine Hills Community Council a 501 c(4) Nonprofit Organization, held a community meeting to discuss various issues of fire, community and pharmaceutical safety.

After the meeting was called to order, high school students opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Dr. Latanya Nichols, President of the Pine Hills Community Council said, “Our goal this year as a Council is to educate, engage and empower the community by providing access and resources for personal, family and professional growth.”

The guest speaker was Fire Marshal William Fargat. Fargat encouraged residents to be diligent about  changing smoke detectors on a regular basis. The Fire Marshal also encouraged residents to create a plan in case of a fire.

Captain Ashley Strange of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office gave a quick report on the crime in Pine Hills. Strange said crime is down this year in Pine Hills compared to last year.

The Drug Enforcement Agency had pharmaceutical specialists on site to educate and encourage residents to dispose of their expired prescriptions. The pharmaceutical specialists were available and prepared to have residents dispose of their expired prescriptions at the meeting.

Coming up, the Pine Hills Community Council will be holding a political Hob Nob (Straw Poll) for the upcoming 2024 election. The Hob Nob Committee Planning Meeting will be held on Thursday July 18th, at the Central Florida Fair Events Hall.

Other topics discussed were revitalization and beautification, economic development, educational equity and homelessness.

Currently, Dr. Latanya Nichols serves as the Council’s President and Sandra Fatmi-Hall serves as the Council’s First Vice President.
