Orlando Police Release Body Camera Footage of Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting

Suspect with rifle shot after refusing commands

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Police Department has released body camera footage from a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place earlier this month at a downtown studio workspace.

The incident occurred around 2:42 a.m. on March 1 at 221 East Colonial Drive. Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person who was reportedly banging on a victim’s door and possibly armed with a gun.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the reporting individual, who was located a few doors down from the scene. As they continued down the hallway of the commercial building — described as a studio workspace not intended for residential living — officers encountered an open door.

According to police, a man emerged from the unit holding what appeared to be an AR-15-style rifle. Officers identified the man as 62-year-old Nick Raymond Bingham and gave him verbal commands to show his hands. Police say Bingham did not comply, and officers fired their weapons.

Officers attempted life-saving measures on the suspect at the scene before he was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Bingham, authorities said, had a non-violent criminal history from another state.

No officers were injured during the encounter. As is standard protocol, the three officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is conducting an independent review of the shooting. Once completed, the case will be turned over to the State Attorney’s Office. The Orlando Police Department will also conduct its own internal investigation into the incident.

The released body camera footage is part of the department’s commitment to transparency in officer-involved shootings, according to officials.
