OPD Releases Video From Protest At Lake Eola

Orlando Police Release Video from the past Weekend’s Demonstrations in Downtown Orlando

On Saturday, May 11th at Lake Eola, there was a demonstration of approximately 1,200 people. While most demonstrated peacefully, we did make 2 arrests of individuals who were charged with battery on a law enforcement officer. Officers also deployed a handheld chemical agent in the area of a group that became disruptive and violent. No injuries were reported.

Today, we are releasing three videos that showed the activity taken place that led to several of our officers being physically attacked and the altercation interrupting the peaceful demonstration.

•     The first part is body worn camera footage from the arresting officer as he entered the crowd to warn against using an amplified device which is a violation of City Ordinance.

      •     The second part is body worn camera footage of an assisting officer which shows the arrestee battering the arresting officer.

      •     The final portion is a publicly sourced video which shows the area that was sprayed with a chemical agent used to disperse those interfering with the arrest and also shows the arrestee battering the officer.

The Orlando Police Department is committed to keeping everyone safe who chooses to peacefully assemble in the City of Orlando, while also maintaining the safety of our officers, residents and businesses.

Our department works with organizers of events that are being planned at city venues ahead of time to ensure they have the appropriate permits, and that we ensure the safety of everyone involved.
