ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orange County deputy shot a man Sunday night after authorities say he was armed with knives outside a Walmart on East Colonial Drive.
The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 at the Walmart located at 11250 East Colonial Drive in Orlando.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the store after reports of a man stealing a shopping cart full of items while holding a knife.

Investigators said two knives were recovered at the scene.
Who Is the Suspect?
The suspect has been identified as 48-year-old Jason Anthony Beal.
He was taken to a hospital with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.
Beal is now charged with:

Resisting an officer with violence
Who Is Investigating the Shooting?
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating the shooting. This is standard procedure in deputy-involved shootings.
After FDLE completes its investigation, the findings will be sent to the State Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors will review the case to determine whether the deputy’s use of force was legally justified.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office will also conduct its own internal investigation.
The deputy who fired his weapon has been placed on temporary, paid administrative leave while the investigation is underway. The deputy’s name has not been released.
Second Deputy-Involved Shooting in One Week
This marks the second time in less than a week that an Orange County deputy has shot someone. Officials have not said whether the two incidents are connected.
Under Florida law, officers may use deadly force if they believe it is necessary to prevent serious injury or death.
The investigation remains active.
