Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) joins the Board of Governors (BOG) as the number one ranked Public HBCU in the country. This is FAMU’s fourth consecutive year as the highest ranked HBCU.
FAMU is also the 103rd Top Public University, Carnegie Research 2 targeted for R1, and Alachua County Chapter President Boderick Johnson said, “FAMU is one of the most highly sought after academic institutions in the entire country as exemplified by the record number of applications (20,000+) received for first year students desiring to attend for the academic year, 2023-2024.”
FAMU President Dr. Larry Robinson will be one of the twelve University presidents presenting at the BOG meeting in Gainesville at UF, the host institution. Dr. Robinson is scheduled to provide an update on how the university is progressing on its Boldly Striking Strategic Plan.
Additionally, a presentation on how Florida A&M University is making strides on elevating Student Success and its standing in the Performance Based Funding goals approved by the BOG.
FAMU Rattlers that are in Florida, particularly the Alachua County FAMU Alumni and friends are usually in the audience in orange and green to support President Robinson, FAMU Board of Trustees (BOT) Chair Kelvin Lawson, coupled with the administrative team and the students. Dr. G.W. Mingo, FAMU Alachua County Chapter Government Relations Committee encourages FAMUANS to attend the meeting and thank the ‘governors’ for their approval of the 2023 Legislative Budget Requests (LBRs).“
“This is an opportunity for the alumni and Gainesville citizens interested in how the SUS is governed and financed, to come out and learn about the governance process,” stated FAMU NAA Florida Region Vice President William Youmans.
This two-day meeting will cover detailed discussion on topics such as:
- State University System Legislative Budget Requests for 2024-2025
- Appointment of Trustees to University Trustee Boards
- Update on Online and Innovation programs
The Board of Governors’ meeting will be held at the University of Florida campus, with committee meetings scheduled to begin August 29, 2024 at 1:00 PM.
