Foodie Review: Caribbean Sunshine Bakery

Restaurant of the Week

Orlando Restaurant Food Review

Overview

Caribbean Sunshine Bakery and Restaurant has been serving Caribbean cuisine and bakery items to Central Florida for over 30 years. Caribbean Sunshine’s menu covers the scope of main dishes, sides, and smaller eats that you would expect from an authentic Caribbean restaurant. You’ll have plenty of options, whether you are looking for a full meal or a quick bite.

The look

There are three Caribbean Sunshine locations. I visited the main location on Colonial Drive. The restaurant includes a dining area and bar. It’s spacious and heavily decorated, but not to an excessive degree.

The menu

There are several registers to order from. This cuts down on time spent waiting in line. Most menu items were ready-made. I only had a brief wait until my order was ready. Entrées are available à la carte. But also as a lunch or dinner meal. Lunch or dinner meals include the main item, a side of vegetables, dumpling, plantain, and white rice or rice and peas. Other menu items include Caribbean-style breakfast, soups, and in-house specialty drinks.

I ordered the small oxtail meal with steamed cabbage and rice and peas. The portion of the small meal was quite generous. The price here was lower than the typical market cost. The food was standard to my expectations; I found myself quite pleased with the quality. The braised oxtail was rich and savory, and the rice was perfectly fluffy, not too dense or too dry. The cabbage was slightly crunchy, and the flavor was bright and peppery, which added a nice balance to the rich stew and rice.

More savory options

In addition to the restaurant, Caribbean Sunshine also offers sweet and savory options from their bakery such as cakes, patties, and breads. Cakes are available by the slice or whole. The restaurant’s website allows the option to order ahead or cater for special events if necessary.

Brief History

With three decades of dedication to the Orlando area, Caribbean Sunshine has earned loyalty and staple status for good reasons. Whether you chose to stop by for drinks, dinner, or dessert, I would recommend giving Caribbean Sunshine a try.

Convenient Orlando Locations

The primary Caribbean Sunshine location is at 2528 W. Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL, 32804. The other locations are at 6922 Silver Star Road, Orlando, FL, 32818 and 16112 Marsh Road, Winter Garden, FL, 34787.
