Orange Avenue was transformed into a powerful stage for advocacy and awareness as the community came together for Walk A Mile in Her Shoes, an event dedicated to ending domestic violence. Hosted by Harbor House of Central Florida, this annual walk serves as both a fundraiser and a rallying call for critical survivor programs and services across the region.
Men and women alike stepped into high heels, blinged-out flip-flops, or sneakers to demonstrate solidarity with survivors of domestic abuse. The event is part of a larger movement inspired by Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, The International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence, a project of Venture Humanity, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.
More than just a walk, this gathering is a testament to the community’s commitment to preventing and eliminating domestic violence. Harbor House plays a vital role in this mission by providing life-saving resources to survivors, advancing best practices, and engaging the public through education and outreach.
Participants not only made a statement with their footwear but also competed for prizes in several categories, including Most Creative Shoe, Largest Team, Largest Team Fundraiser, and Largest Individual Fundraiser. The energy at the starting line was electric, with music and vendors setting the stage for a meaningful journey through the heart of Orlando and Orange County.
By walking together, participants sent a powerful message: domestic violence has no place in our community. Each step taken helps fund crucial support services for survivors and strengthens efforts to break the cycle of abuse.
