Teen Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting on North Orange Blossom Trail

Police say deadly shooting stemmed from attempted drug transaction; teen now in custody

ORLANDO, Fla. — A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month in Orlando.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on March 16, Orlando Police officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim near 5200 North Orange Blossom Trail. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a vehicle with two occupants — a female passenger and a male who had sustained a gunshot wound.

The male victim, identified as 26-year-old Jared A. Kinloch, was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to investigators, the female passenger told detectives that the shooting took place during an attempted drug transaction.

On March 26, members of the Orlando Police Department’s Tactical Anti-Crime (TAC) Unit apprehended Damian B. Burden, 17, in connection with the shooting. Burden is facing charges of First Degree Murder with a Firearm and Attempted Robbery with a Firearm.

Authorities say Burden is also facing additional charges unrelated to the shooting, including Grand Theft Auto, Armed Trespass in a Conveyance, Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Minor, Resisting an Officer Without Violence, and Driving Without a Valid License.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police have not yet released details about how Burden was identified as the suspect or if additional arrests are expected.
