The road to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles will officially pass through Orlando.
The International Olympic Committee has selected International Olympic Committee and Orlando leaders announced that Orlando will serve as one of four global host cities for the Olympic Q-Series 2028, placing Central Florida alongside Tokyo, Shanghai, and Montreal as part of the international qualifying circuit for elite athletes pursuing spots in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
The announcement marks a major milestone for Orlando’s growing reputation as an international sports destination. The Olympic Q-Series serves as a qualifying pathway for emerging Olympic sports and brings together top athletes from around the world in high-profile competition events leading up to the Olympic Games.
The selection reinforces Orlando’s standing as a premier destination capable of hosting large-scale global sporting events, conventions, and entertainment experiences. Orlando has previously hosted major international competitions across multiple sports, supported by its tourism infrastructure, venue capacity, and global accessibility through Greater Orlando Aviation Authority and Orlando International Airport.
The Olympic Q-Series was introduced ahead of the Paris Olympics as part of the qualification process for newer Olympic disciplines. Additional details regarding Orlando’s event schedule, venues, and participating sports are expected to be announced closer to the competition dates.
For Orlando, the designation carries both international prestige and economic impact potential, with visitors, athletes, media, and sponsors expected to travel to Central Florida during the qualifying events leading into LA28.
