Suspect Arrested In Deadly July 4th Shooting

On July 4, 2024, around 2:07 p.m., deputies responded to the 5200 block of Sailfish Street in reference to a shooting.  When deputies arrived, they found a man in his 40s who had been shot.  He was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Minutes later, around 2:20 p.m., deputies responded to the 2700 block of Appaloosa Road in reference to another shooting.  When deputies arrived, they found a man in his 20s who had been shot.  He was also transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

The two men who were shot and killed have been identified, and their next of kin have been notified.

The man who was shot on Sailfish Street is Jose Carrasquillo (DOB: 1/7/1979).

The man who was shot on Appaloosa Drive is Eduardo Soto (DOB: 9/27/1996).

Detectives believe these shootings are related and the suspect has been detained.  There is no threat to the community.

The suspect in these cases has been arrested. He is Leandro Correa (DOB: 11/24/1975).

Correa is being held in the Orange County Jail on no bond, charged with First Degree Murder in the Jose Carrasquillo case. The motive in that case is related to narcotics.  Charges in the Eduardo Soto case will be added, but since Correa is being held on no bond, detectives can take time developing those charges.
