On Saturday, excited voters marched down Kennedy Boulevard in Eatonville to cast their votes in this years’ presidential general election. The organization Faith In Florida (FIF) is a religious group whose mission is to build a powerful, multicultural, nonpartisan network of congregation community organizations in Florida that addresses systemic racial and economic issues that cause poverty for American families.
This election season, Eatonville — the nation’s oldest Black township — have better access to the ballot than ever before. This is the first time Eatonville has had a voting precinct central to where its residents live. “Voting has always been a part of the civil rights especially for the struggles that Black people have had in history,” said Pastor Willie C. Barnes of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, a Democrat running against Senator Rick Scott, Duly-elected State Attorney Monique Worrell-Democrat and other candidates also attended the event. Early voting will ends on November 3rd. Election Day is November 5th. Polls will be open from 7am-7pm. If voters are in line at 7pm, you must be allowed to vote.
