MUMBAI, India — Actor Shalini Pandey, who rose to fame with the 2017 romance-action Telugu film “Arjun Reddy,” recently opened up about the movie and credited director Sandeep Reddy Vanga for making her a performer in it.
The movie, which catapulted Pandey to instant stardom in South India, marked four years of its release on Aug. 25, 2021. On its fourth anniversary, the actor took to her Instagram handle and expressed gratitude to her director.
“I owe everything to Arjun Reddy because it put me on the map as a performer,” she said.
“I had done my level best to put up a performance that I was immensely proud of, and I’m glad that audiences appreciated my hard work.”
“I owe everything to my director Sandeep Vanga Reddy for his belief in me as an actor. I’m fortunate that I was a part of his vision to create an unparalleled love story that has etched its place in the hearts and minds of film lovers.”
Pandey shared that the film’s success fueled her passion to be recognized as a versatile artist.

“The success of the film gave me a lot of confidence to pursue my personal goal to be an artiste who wants to make a name as a performer, who loves to be versatile,” she said.
“‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ will be a testimony to this statement. Unfortunately, I can’t talk too much about my role right now, so you will have to wait and watch.”
Helmed by Vanga, “Arjun Reddy” also featured Vijay Deverakonda in the lead. It revolved around a short-tempered surgeon who immerses himself in drugs and alcohol and spirals into self-destruction after an ugly breakup with his girlfriend.
The romantic drama was a massive hit and was remade by Vanga in Hindi as “Kabir Singh,” with Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles.
Pandey, who was last seen in Dinesh Giri’s 2020 erotic drama “Crazzy lamhen,” will now make her big-screen Hindi debut in Divyang Thakkar’s 2021 comedy film “Jayeshbhai Jordaar” opposite Ranveer Singh.
She recently opened up about her body transformation for the upcoming film.
“For this particular weight loss, I got on a meal plan, and luckily I was doing a film which required an immense amount of dance rehearsals that added to my weight loss,” she said.
“So, there is nothing specific that I did to shed my weight, but I feel the meal plan worked really well. I was dancing for around four hours daily, and that’s a lot of cardio which helped me a lot.”
Pandey also expressed her excitement for “Jayeshbhai Jordaar” and said she is not feeling any pressure of expectations.
“I’ve always looked forward to working in films, and I’ve always enjoyed the process of acting and filmmaking,” she said.
“So, I wouldn’t say that my big screen Hindi debut is putting me under any pressure. I would actually call it excitement because I’m always euphoric, and I’m definitely looking forward to the release of the film.”
“So, I’m actually very, very, excited to see how people will receive the film and my performance. I have really worked hard for it.”
“Jayeshbhai Jordaar” also stars Boman Irani, Farabi Md Refat, and Ratna Pathak Shah.
