ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A second victim has died following a suspected arson attack that occurred late last year in a wooded area near Michigan Court and John Young Parkway.
Authorities confirmed that Grace Ann Strickland, 25, passed away on March 20 from injuries sustained in the November incident. Strickland had been hospitalized with serious injuries since the attack. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office stated they expect additional charges will be filed against the suspect, Daniel Clair Marriott, in light of this development.
Marriott, 48, was previously arrested on two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder shortly after the incident. He is currently being held at the Orange County jail following his transfer from Seminole County, where he was initially booked.
The case began on November 11, 2024, when deputies responded to reports of a fire in a wooded area around 3:00 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a tent had been intentionally set ablaze, leaving both Strickland and another man critically injured. The second victim, identified as Malik Shaquan Corbitt, 25, succumbed to his injuries a week later on November 18.
According to authorities, another victim was initially reported in stable condition but has since recovered. The State Fire Marshal continues to investigate the cause of the fire as part of the broader homicide investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office has indicated that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and they have not released further details at this time.
