Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff Energizes Voters in The Villages

Yesterday in Florida, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff rallied an energized crowd in The Villages as part of the Harris-Walz campaign’s “New Way Forward” tour, coming off the heels of a powerful performance from Vice President Harris in her first debate against Donald Trump. The Second Gentleman was joined by former Republican Congressman David Jolly, Gainesville State Representative Yvonne Hinson, and Congressional candidate Barbie Harden Hall. The visit comes as The Villages, a conservative stronghold, has showcased an overwhelming surge in support for Vice President Harris and Governor Tim Walz and went viral for their 500+ golf cart caravan back in July.

With fewer than 55 days until Election Day, the Second Gentleman underscored the threat a second Trump presidency would pose to seniors and all Americans, as he continues to push a dangerous Project 2025 agenda that would undermine Social Security, Medicare coverage, and our freedoms. As she made clear on the debate stage, Vice President Harris is instead fighting  for a more hopeful and inclusive future where Floridians can not just get by, but get ahead.

“She revealed to the entire world what he is  –  a fraud,” said Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff. “He is a fraud, he didn’t know anything, except lying and she just exposed him. He had no idea about anything and on the one thing he’s been talking about for 10 years, taking your health care away. He still doesn’t know how to do that. Has a concept of a plan to rip your health care away because, you know, he wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act, because he doesn’t care about you.

“She also has practical solutions for issues facing people, so young people who are having children, $6,000 child tax credit that’s going to help families. 3 million new homes. All these small businesses are moving around the country. We need more affordable housing. She’s got a plan for that,” said Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff. “She’s got a plan for small business, $50,000 tax credit to increase investment for small business, but she also understands we’ve got to lower costs, [she] obviously lowered$35 insulin for seniors. We want to make sure that’s available for everyone. Continuing to negotiate with Medicare lower drug prices.

“In the debate, Donald Trump offered only division, chaos, and no plans to help working class families, veterans, or seniors,” said former Republican Congressman David Jolly. “Vice President Harris talked about the issues that matter most like building the economy, protecting Social Security and Medicare, restoring reproductive freedom, and offering America a New Way Forward. We are not going back to the chaos and embarrassment of having Donald Trump representing us on the world stage. We will not allow him to force his extreme Project 2025 agenda onto our lives.”

“Vice President Harris has been part of an administration that has lowered health care costs for millions of Americans, and for the first time ever made it possible for Medicare to negotiate the price of drugs. On top of capping the price of insulin at $35 a month for seniors,” said state Representative Yvonne Hinson. “We want an America where everyone is treated with respect and dignity. Where everyone has the freedom to make their own choices, without Donald Trump and these extreme MAGA politicians telling us what to do!”

“This week on the debate stage, Kamala Harris inspired a whole new generation of young women. She commanded the stage and showed us what real leadership looks like, while taking down Trump and his Project 2025 agenda to threaten our democracy and our very basic freedoms,” said Congressional candidate Barbie Harden Hall. “Vice President Harris reminded Americans why they fired Trump four years ago — and why they’ll reject him again this November.”
