Restaurant Foodie Alert: Flyers Wings and Grill

By Nile Peoples

Flyers Wings & Grill is a well-loved American cuisine staple on Orlando’s west side. Specializing in wings, sandwiches, and salads, Flyers is a sporty and fast-paced restaurant that embodies American dining culture. Open for lunch and dinner, Flyers has plenty to offer for anyone looking for the classics.

The atmosphere

Initially, I visited Flyers in the afternoon, and the restaurant was quite busy between the usual lunch and dinner rush hours. The atmosphere was fast paced, and I felt slightly overwhelmed as I waited to order and tried to find a spot in line. However, service was speedy, and the restaurant seemed well-staffed, which meant the line moved quickly. Should I visit again, I would order ahead for pick up or dine in for the smoothest experience.

An array of food options

Moreover, Flyers offers an abundance of food options from a wide array of sandwiches to appetizers and specialty entrées. There are eleven unique sandwiches on the menu that are served with a side, including hot and cold options and hot dogs or burgers. Other entrées are featured as “First Class Specialty Plates,” and include four different options. In addition to these meals, wings are offered in several different heat levels, flavors, and quantities up to 100 pieces. There are five different spice levels that come with the classic wings, ranging from mild to “Suicide X-tra Hot.”

The taste

In addition, the mild wings are coated in a butter sauce which is salty and savory, with no heat at all. The hotter sauces are a mix of this buttery base with a tangy vinegar pepper sauce. For reference, the medium sauce had minimal heat; enough to notice and far from uncomfortable or overwhelming, which meant that the flavor of the sauce and chicken had room to shine. In addition to the base sauces, seven other flavors are available as well as the option to add garlic to any sauce. With so much variety, Flyers Wings & Grill has options to please everyone.
