On Monday, July 15, 2024, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost will welcome Rob Wilcox and Greg Jackson, Deputy Directors of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention to Central Florida, and host multiple open press events and engage with several local organizations and local leaders to discuss the impact of the newly-established federal office on Central Florida and nationwide.
Last year, Congressman Frost introduced legislation to establish the first-ever federal Office of Gun Violence Prevention, which President Biden established through executive action.
At 12:00 PM, Congressman Frost and the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention will tour the City of Orlando’s Community Violence Intervention (CVI) Headquarters. Last year, Congressman Frost successfully attained an appropriation through Community Project Funding of $750,000 for the City of Orlando to use to create a facility that will house its CVI operations. The group will visit the community center that’s attached to it for a tour and discussion about CVI expansion in the City of Orlando, and how they’ve used federal funds to reduce gun violence.
At 2:00 PM, Congressman Frost and the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention will join Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer to present the city with a $750,000 check to create a headquarters location for the City of Orlando’s Community Violence Intervention Program. Last year, Congressman Frost presented the City of Orlando with a $1.5 million check to establish this program.
At 5:30 PM, Congressman Frost and the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention will host a town hall on gun violence prevention to discuss the efforts in Central Florida to make our community safer and save lives. Participants will be available for a brief gaggle after the event.
