Police Seek Public’s Help in Metro Place Apartments Homicide Investigation

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Police Department is urging the public to come forward with information following a fatal shooting at the Metro Place Apartments that left a 32-year-old man dead.

The shooting occurred in the early hours of Monday, July 10, 2023, when police received multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire at the apartment complex located at 1049 S. Kirkman Road.

When officers arrived at the scene around 12:30 a.m., they found Nyion Ponteen, 32, unresponsive. Ponteen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Surveillance Footage May Hold Answers

Investigators have obtained surveillance video capturing the individual or individuals believed to be responsible for the shooting. Detectives are releasing still images from the footage in hopes that someone will recognize the suspect.

Police stress that any information, no matter how small, could be critical to solving the case.

Anyone who recognizes the person in the surveillance video is asked to contact Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477). All tips are completely anonymous, and callers may be eligible for a cash reward if their information leads to an arrest.

“This is a tragedy for the victim’s family and for the entire community,” said an Orlando Police spokesperson. “We are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything to help us bring those responsible to justice.”
