Orlando Museum of Art Debuts NASA-Inspired ‘A Day of Four Sunsets’ Exhibition

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) will launch a new exhibition exploring humanity’s fascination with space just as Central Florida prepares for a historic return to the Moon.

“Dennis Scholl: A Day of Four Sunsets” will be on display March 19 through June 14, featuring a new body of work by Miami-based artist Dennis Scholl that blends art, history, and NASA memorabilia to explore themes of memory, time, and space exploration.

The exhibition arrives as excitement builds around NASA’s Artemis II mission, scheduled to launch from Kennedy Space Center. The mission will mark the first crewed flight around the Moon in more than 50 years, ushering in a new era of lunar exploration.

Scholl’s exhibition draws its title from astronaut John Glenn, who famously witnessed four sunsets during a single orbit of Earth in 1962. The experience inspired Scholl’s artistic exploration of time, perspective, and humanity’s relationship with the cosmos.

Visitors will encounter intricate assemblages built from mission patches, declassified documents, space photography, astronaut gloves, and even space food. Among the featured works is “Untitled (Viking Orbiter II),” which incorporates photographs of Mars captured by the Viking Orbiter spacecraft.

“For me, art is a way of excavating the past and reframing it in a way that sparks new connections and reflections,” Scholl said. “I hope to provoke a sense of wonder and introspection for viewers.”

OMA will celebrate the exhibition’s opening on March 19 during its Access for All free admission day, featuring a special appearance by NASA astronaut Nicole Stott, who spent 104 days in space aboard the International Space Station and Space Shuttle.

The museum will host two programs that day, including a midday talk on space history and an evening conversation with Scholl and Stott about the intersection of art, memory, and space exploration.
