On Saturday, The Florida A&M University Greater Orlando Chapter of the National Alumni Association hosted a sold-out event to raise money for FAMU students who are financially struggling to pay tuition.
Orlando Chapter President Patrick Gray said the scholarship brunch has allowed the chapter to award nearly $30,000 in scholarships to 12 incoming students at FAMU thanks to the generosity of the community. Gray said he is thrilled to have the the leadership of organization’s Committee Chair, Abu Canady. Canady led and organized the event. Gray also said the commitment and enthusiasm made the event a success. “I also want to recognize the tremendous effort of our 25 chapter volunteers, whose collective dedication has made this event truly outstanding.”
The scholarship recipients are:

- Kierstyn Cidel – Nursing
- Mia Hernandez Williams – Global Security and International Affairs
- Anderson Jean-Louis – Biochemistry
- Daren Leath – Business
- Alanna Parker – Biology Pre-Medicine
- Noah Rich – Engineering
- Morgan Stevens – Business Administration
- Sydney Star – Business Administration
- Jade White – Computer Engineering
- Sheye White – Psychology
- Nathaniel Worrell – Business
Dignitaries at the event included Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, Orange County Clerk of Courts Tiffany Moore Russell, City of Orlando Commissioner Bakari Burns, District Director for United States Congressman Maxwell Frost, Jason Henry, former Florida State Representative Kamia Brown and City of Oakland Commissioner Joseph McMullen. FAMU alumna and keynote speaker, Cheryl A. Harris, has supported FAMU as a recruiter of talent for Allstate.
