Orange Avenue to Reopen to Vehicular Traffic on Weekends in Downtown Orlando

The City of Orlando will reopen Orange Avenue on weekend evenings in Downtown Orlando on Saturday, February 8, 2025, as part of an ongoing effort to create a more vibrant, and safe downtown. Beginning Saturday, Orange Avenue, as well as Central Boulevard and Pine Street will remain open in the evenings to safely accommodate vehicular traffic while maintaining pedestrian access along the sidewalks. This approach ensures visitors can safely enjoy downtown businesses, ultimately enhancing the area’s economic vitality keeping pedestrians off of roadways and eliminating the street party atmosphere.

Adjustments to vehicular traffic, including closures, will be made as necessary, particularly during permitted special events. The phased approach of reopening Orange Avenue, which began last November, is guided by the following:

  • Ensuring pedestrian safety by maintaining sidewalks for foot traffic
  • Supporting local businesses by providing reliable access and encouraging patronage
  • Advancing the DTO Action Plan to improve mobility, public spaces, and the economic impact of Downtown Orlando

These efforts also build on ongoing safety initiatives, including:

  • Increased code enforcement officers in the area
  • More funding for Orlando Police officers
  • Expansion of the SAFE program and Orlando Connect for public safety
  • Improved lighting throughout downtown
  • Secure private parking lot agreements
  • Adjustments to the noise ordinance
  • Permitting alcohol sales from midnight to 2 a.m. in the Downtown Entertainment District

The city is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors, while simultaneously enhancing the economic opportunities within our growing downtown area.
