Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Interim Commissioner Rose Celebrate Hicks Avenue Extension
On Tuesday, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer joined District 5 Interim City Commissioner Shan Rose and District 6 Orange County Commissioner Michael Scott to celebrate the completion of Hicks Avenue roadway improvements with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This collaborative roadway extension project, in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation, adds connections from South to Gore Streets and will further Orlando’s ongoing efforts to enhance mobility options and improve safety for all travelers.

City project milestones on Hicks Avenue from South Street to Anderson Street include:

  • New intersection and traffic signals at Terry Avenue and South Street
  • A raised intersection at Hicks Avenue and Anderson Street
  • A raised midblock crosswalk on Hicks Avenue north of McDevitt Street
  • 12ft-wide trails and decorative streetlamps on both sides of Hicks Avenue
  • Wastewater pipe replacement along Hicks Avenue
  • Stormwater pond on Hicks Avenue
  • New landscaping/beautification throughout the corridor

The Florida Department of Transportation project milestones on Hicks Avenue from Anderson Street to Gore Street include:

  • New intersection and traffic signals at Anderson Street
  • A new intersection and roundabout at Carter Street
  • New 12ft-wide trails and decorative streetlamps along both side of Hicks Avenue
  • Roundabouts at Carter Street and Conley Street/Callahan Drive
  • More than two dozen on-street parking spaces between Carter Street and Gore Street
  • Increased access to westbound I-4 from Hicks Avenue via the Gore Street on-ramp

These infrastructure upgrades align with the city’s goals to foster greater connectivity and collaboration by expanding and creating new routes within the city’s transportation network. This project also supports Orlando’s Vision Zero initiative aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2040, while providing safer, more accessible options for all residents.
