Commissioner Mable Butler was born in Gainesville, Florida. After high school, she earned a degree in social work from New York City College. Returning to Florida, she became a social worker for the City of Orlando.
Mable’s love and devotion to her community led her into politics, where in 1994 she became the first Black woman elected as a city commissioner in Orlando. In 1998, she continued to break barriers by successfully running for Orange County Commissioner, where she served two terms.
Mable Butler passed away on September 6, 2025, at the age of 98. She leaves behind a legacy of joy, community service, civic activism, and love for all.
