Jeremiah Williams Domestic Violence Awareness Walk

By The Indianapolis Recorder

Family and church members gathered recently to participate in the 10th annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk in honor of Jeremiah Williams, who was shot and killed by his mother’s ex-boyfriend.

This annual event brings awareness to domestic violence in Marion County and provides information and resources to help people who are affected by domestic violence.

Nearly 100 participated, walking from the host church Mt. Moriah MBC into the surrounding neighborhood. Pastor Arthur L. Sample III and his wife, Barbara, raised Williams, who was their great nephew. His mother wanted him to be in a safer environment until she took him back home with her. Five months later, he was shot and killed when the ex-boyfriend opened fire on the house. Attendees shouted Williams’ name as they marched. He was only 8 years old.
