OOTY, India — Pakistan, after losing two wars to India, had started resorting to proxy war and that terrorism had become an integral part of its state policy, said India’s minister of defense, Rajnath Singh, on Aug. 29.

“After losing two wars, one of our neighboring countries (Pakistan) has started resorting to proxy war, and terrorism has become an integral part of its state policy. It has started targeting India by providing arms, funds, and training to terrorists,” said Singh addressing the faculty and students of Defence Service Staff College Wellington.

“Delivered a keynote address on ‘Defence reforms in shifting National Security paradigm’ at DSSC in Wellington. The government under the stewardship of PM Shri @narendramodi has not only addressed immediate issues but also unleashed several reforms in the security & defense sector,” said Singh in a tweet.

He said the country has started targeting India by providing arms, funds, and training to terrorists.

“Despite challenges at our borders, the countrymen today are confident that there will be no comprised with India’s national security,” said Singh.

“The belief that India would not only end terrorism on its own land but also not hesitate to conduct counter-terrorism operations on their land if needed is gradually becoming stronger.”.

He said that The 20-year wait for the Indian Air Force’s Next Generation Fighter Plane is over. The Air Force has fighter planes like Rafale, and now our strength has increased a lot to respond to any challenge regarding India’s sovereignty, integrity, border security.

“I want to salute the armed forces who defeated the neighbor (Pakistan), which has been targeting our nation,” said Singh.

“If a ceasefire (between India and Pakistan) is successful today, it is because of our strength. In 2016, cross-border strikes changed our reactionary mindset into a proactive mindset, which was further strengthened by the Balakot airstrike in 2019.”

“Today, the enemy no longer needs to enter the border. He can also target our security apparatus from outside the border. Alignment and re-alignment of global powers have added to the already changing security challenges,” said India’s Defense Minister.

But, he also said that despite the challenges on India’s border, the common man is confident that there will be no compromise on India’s national security. “This belief gradually became stronger, that India would not only end terror on its own land, would not hesitate to attack their land if needed,” said Singh.

The Defense Ministry also released a ‘Positive Indigenization List’ of 209 items, which means these items will be procured only from the domestic industry. This is a big step towards self-reliance in defense, Singh said.
