I don’t believe in coincidences. I do believe in synchronicity. Synchronicity is the idea that events can be related in meaning or in purpose without being linked by cause and effect. An example of synchronicity is opening up the Bible to a particular verse which is directly related to a current spiritual struggle or situation in your life.
As a Christian, my viewpoint on synchronicity starts with recognizing from a Christian and biblical perspective, that it is entirely possible for coincidences to actually be meaningful. Since God is the creator and center of the universe, He actually reacts with everything He has created; therefore He provides a common cause for all possible events. In other words, God is capable of causing whatever we experience in life so it is possible that when we experience synchronicity God is really trying to tell us something. On the other hand, as a Christian I also recognize that some coincidences are exactly just that- a coincidence and while God is Sovereign over every part of His creation not everything that happens is meant to be a great message from heaven.
Today many of us interpret the word coincidence to mean by chance which actually means without cause, however, from a Christian perspective chance is a moment when two separate lines of cause and effect interact. In other words, all things happen for a reason but that reason may not be a message from God, that’s why we are called upon to compare what happens in the world to the written Word as indicated in Acts 17:11 which says, 11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonians, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so, and in Hebrews 4:12 which tells us, 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. When we compare God’s Word to situations and circumstances, we can rely more substantially on something more than feelings or assumptions. Synchronicity is a common feeling for everyone but as it is with all other feelings we have we must always apply wisdom before acting on it.
Now where am I going with this? Well doing his inaugural address one of the things that the newly installed president stated was that he had no higher responsibility than to defend our country. However on the first day that he was in office he moved to delay the banning of TikTok in the United States. Now if you’re familiar with the TikTok situation, you know that in 2020 the United States government under the direction of then President Trump wanted to ban TikTok because of security reasons. In 2024, Congress passed a law banning the firm from use in the United States which represents 17% of its client base. The Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision, upheld the law against TikTok, citing reports that the data TikTok collects from users including the age, phone numbers, contacts, internet addresses, exact locations and other contents of private messages sent through the app is a security risk to the nation. According to news reports, Trump extended the ban deadline for 75 days “so that we can make a deal” for TikTok to survive in the United States. So he thumbed his nose at the Supreme Court and said, Let’s Make A Deal! What I’m concerned about is the Synchronicity of his decision. The timing is odd. You see, Trump switched positions after meeting with billionaire Jeff Yass. In March of 2024 Trump and Yass had a meeting; I don’t know what they discussed. Trump said they didn’t discuss TikTok. I believe that like I believe he didn’t know anything about project 2025 which he has followed to the letter so far. What can you believe from a man who lies like He breathes. I do know that Mr. Yass is reportedly a major investor in ByteDance the company that owns TikTok and he donated over $100M to Republican groups and campaigns in 2024. Say what you will, but I see a perfect example of the commonality of cause for these two events. I see Synchronicity.
