
Tallahassee, Fla. — Governor Ron DeSantis has ordered flags across Florida to be flown at half-staff on Thursday, March 13, 2025, in honor of Senator Geraldine Thompson, who passed away on February 13, 2025, at the age of 76.

Senator Thompson dedicated nearly two decades to public service in the Florida Legislature, where she championed education, civil rights, and community development. She was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2006, serving until 2012. She then won a seat in the Florida Senate from 2012 to 2016, later returning to the Florida House from 2018 to 2022. In 2022, she was re-elected to the Florida Senate, representing District 15, where she served until her passing.
A tireless advocate for justice and progress, Senator Thompson leaves behind a legacy of service and leadership. Her unwavering commitment to improving communities and uplifting Floridians will not be forgotten.
In recognition of her contributions, Governor DeSantis has directed that the flags of the United States and the State of Florida be lowered to half-staff at the State Capitol in Tallahassee and at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Orange County from sunrise to sunset on March 13, 2025.
