FAMU Alumni Chapters Annual College Commitment Day

FAMU Alumni Chapters around the State participated in its Annual Academic College Commitment Day

This annual event is a continuation of a college access initiative launched by former first lady Michelle Obama during her time at the White House. College Signing Day honors students for taking charge of their futures by pursuing education past high school.

The Florida Region recently held a successful webinar for incoming freshmen who intend to attend the Number 1 Public HBCU and the Number 91st Public University in the Country, Florida A&M University (FAMU). The webinar, which was attended by over 120 students and featured guest speaker Mr. Derek Nettingham, Associate Director from the Office of Admissions.

During the webinar, Mr. Nettingham shared important dates and information for incoming freshmen, including the following:

  • The deadline to submit their commitment fee
  • The deadline to submit dorm fees
  • Student Orientation updates

Mr. Nettingham also answered questions from students about additional testing, Living Learning Communities, financial aid, and student life at FAMU.

“Every time I am surrounded by the FAMUly, whether it be in-person or virtually, I am filled with a sense of purpose and pride. We here in the Office of Admissions do everything we can to reach as many prospective students and incoming Rattlers as we can. But with partners like our FAMU National Alumni Association, that mission becomes exponentially more efficient and impactful. It was a pleasure joining our esteemed alumni network in welcoming a phenomenal cohort of incoming Rattlers to the ‘Hill’. This group has the makings to be our best incoming class yet!”, as said by Mr. Nettingham.

At the end of the event, two (2) $250 book scholarships were awarded to students in attendance at the webinar to help them as they begin their college journey.

“We were thrilled with the turnout for our webinar,” said William Youmans, Region Vice President of the Florida A&M University National Alumni Association Florida Region. “It’s clear that our incoming freshmen are eager to learn more about FAMU and what it has to offer. We’re confident that they will be successful on the Hill.”

The Florida Region has held various activities and events throughout the year to support FAMU and its students.
