Family Seeks Accountability After 92-Year-Old Woman Dies Following Crash With Orlando Police Cruiser

ORLANDO, Fla. — A Central Florida family is calling for accountability after a 92-year-old woman died from injuries sustained in a collision with a marked Orlando Police cruiser over the weekend, an incident now under investigation by both internal affairs and the Traffic Homicide Unit.

The crash occurred early Sunday morning at the intersection of South Semoran Boulevard and Hoffner Avenue, according to information provided to WESH 2 Investigates. An initial traffic crash report determined that the police vehicle was at fault.

The victim, Milagros Ortiz, died at 6:59 p.m. Monday at Orlando Regional Medical Center, family members said. She was surrounded by loved ones in her final moments.

Family members described Ortiz as the matriarch of their family, an elder whose presence anchored generations. At 92, they said, she remained active, engaged, and deeply involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

The Orlando Police Department confirmed it has launched an internal investigation into the officer’s actions, alongside a comprehensive Traffic Homicide investigation.

“In addition to the preliminary accident investigation conducted at the scene, a comprehensive Traffic Homicide investigation is underway,” the department said in a statement. “Both the internal review and the Traffic Homicide investigation remain ongoing and have not yet been completed.”

Police officials said no additional details will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigations.

According to the traffic crash report, video evidence of the collision exists and corroborates a witness account of the incident, an element that could play a critical role as investigators work to determine how and why the crash occurred.

The Traffic Homicide investigation remains ongoing. The Florida Sun will continue to follow this story as more information becomes available.
