Downtown Orlando oozes art. Now, The City Beautiful just took its beauty and art to another level.
If you have been on Orange Avenue lately you may have noticed a burst of color painted on the streets at many of its intersections.
The art was painted by a local company called, A Pivotal Character Artworks (APC). According to the organization’s website, it is a creative design and fabrication company based in Central Florida. APC provides artistic direction and creative services such as interior and exterior murals, hand-painted signage, graphic design and brand development. The goal of the company is to provide inventive solutions.
Those big bursts of colors and iconic designs are not only beautiful, but also may increase safety in the city. When drivers see the images, it will be hard not to associate them with an intersection. Skip, the company’s owner said on camera, “This is a collaboration with the city for their safety traffic initiative, so these actually are supposed to help people slow down and pay a little bit more attention to the roads and the traffic.” However, it really doesn’t matter if you’re driving or walking along Orange Avenue, the murals will capture your attention.
Skip added, “Whether it’s something that makes you think, or is provoking, or if it’s something that’s just more aesthetically pleasing like this, it’s important that people be able to, kind of be, confronted and to be able to feel like they’re a part of something that’s pre-existing, that they’re able to be proud of and kind of like attach some of their identity to and connect to and makes them a little bit closer to the city.”
The art is located in Orlando’s CityArts District. The District hosts contemporary art space. It is also a cultural destination in Downtown Orlando. Found in this district are visual and performing arts which co-exist in the heart of downtown. The District contains seven art galleries, an in-house café, presentation and events spaces.
At the corner of Central and Rosalind which is also in the CityArts District, there is a wall mural that is sure to catch your eye.
Although Philadelphia is known for having the most murals – approximately 4,000 – and New York is known for having the most street art, Orlando should easily be in the running for the most beautiful and captivating of them all.
