To address the needs for both local, affordable food and clean energy solutions the City of Orlando is creating a first-of-its-kind, solar-powered, hybrid educational urban farm and community garden on city-owned land, in partnership with the Bank of America Foundation and Central Florida Foundation.
McQuigg farm, located at 716 West Jefferson Street, is a community farm with a community garden and an apiary and will eventually be home to a hydroponic farm. Once complete, McQuigg farm will host a variety of educational sessions for residents to learn about urban agriculture
Recently a new mural was installed around the apiary located at the farm. The mural was inspired by the Parramore community to showcase native Florida wildflowers and bees to connect to the apiary inside the fence. The mural was created by local artist, German Lemus.
