Tuesday night, Orlando’s District 5 residents, as well as 7 candidates vying for suspended commissioner Regina Hill’s seat waited to hear the results of the election.
Two candidates came out on top. Shan Rose received 527 votes and Travaris McCurdy garnered 496 votes.
Out of approximately 21,000 registered voters, only a little over 2,100 of those residents voted in the election. About 1,100 voted by mail, 293 voted early and 711 voted today.
The candidates in election prior to tonight were:
- Travaris McCurdy
- Shaniqua “Shan” Rose
- Ericka Dunlap
- Lawanna Gelzer
- Cameron Hope
- Miles Mulrain
- Tiakeysha Ellison
The election comes on the heels of Federal Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) allegations Hill exploited a 96-year-old woman.
The winner of the District 5 election will serve on Orlando’s City Council until next year. If Hill found not-guilty, or charges are dropped, Hill will be allowed to return to her role and City Commission.
