The event commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865. This year’s panel discussion will have a special focus on the importance of reclaiming the narratives of Black communities and denouncing racial stereotypes.
Following the panel discussion will be the opening exhibition and reception at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center for See Through Our Eyes: Storytellers in Sanford and Eatonville from from 2-4pm.

Dr. Trent Tomengo:
Artist, scholar and lecturer. Currently, a Professor of the Humanities at Seminole State College of Florida in Sanford.
Monica May:
Renowned television and radio Host; “Point of View” on STAR 94.5 –
a community focused talk show.
Glendell Providence:
Local business owner & Publisher of The MidTown Press,
a community centered publication.
Guenet-Gittens Roberts:
Publisher of Caribbean American Passport a leading source of news, information, inspiration, and cultural insights from the Caribbean region and its diaspora.
Cynthia Slaughter:
Documentary Photographer, and Students who participated in “See Through Our Eyes: Storytellers Sanford and Eatonville.”
