Arrest Made in 2023 Hit-and-Run That Claimed Life of 5-Year-Old Girl

Orlando, FL — Nearly two years after a deadly hit-and-run crash that took the life of a 5-year-old girl, authorities have arrested the man they believe is responsible.

On August 25, 2025, members of the Orlando Police Department’s Fugitive Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force took Yosefi Arabu, 35, into custody at his home near Clarcona Ocoee Road and Lunsford Drive.

The arrest stems from a November 11, 2023 crash on the 4300 block of North Orange Blossom Trail. Investigators say a 2016 silver Mercedes C300 collided with a 2016 white Nissan Pathfinder, ejecting two of the Pathfinder’s occupants. Among them was 5-year-old Aiyanna McCoy, who was transported to a hospital but did not survive her injuries. The occupants of the Mercedes fled the scene.

For nearly two years, detectives with OPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit pursued leads in the case. Police said their “diligent work” was instrumental in identifying Arabu and securing charges aimed at delivering justice for McCoy’s family.

Arabu faces a series of felony charges, including:

  • Vehicular homicide

  • Leaving the scene of a crash with death

  • Three counts of driving without a valid license resulting in death or serious injury

  • Tampering with physical evidence

  • Two counts of reckless driving causing serious bodily injury

  • Two counts of reckless driving resulting in property damage

The crash devastated McCoy’s family and rippled across the Orlando community. While Arabu’s arrest marks a step toward accountability, the case underscores the long and often difficult road families face when seeking justice after fatal traffic crimes.

Police officials emphasized that the arrest is part of their ongoing commitment to holding dangerous drivers accountable and preventing tragedies on Orlando’s roadways.
